Selected wines from the cellars of Lidl stores were presented on Friday, November 20, 2015, at the home of Lidl – the Lidl Food Academy – on 34 Stasikratous Street in Nicosia.

Eleven different wines were tested, all distinctly different from one another, all made to accompany different dishes.  On behalf of Lidl, the presentation was carried out by Mr George Georgiou.

Red Pinotage with flavours of prunes, blackberries and sandalwood was one of the wines that really stood out. It is best served with beef and pasta in red sauce, as is dry red Châteauneuf-du-Pape with its distinct aroma of blackberries, anise, liquorice and spices.

The event’s guests also got to taste two of Tuscany’s traditional dry wines – the well-known Chianti, one from 2014, the other a Reserva. The not-so-aged one has a deep red colour and cherry and aromatic flavours, while the Reserva has a deep Bordeaux colour and an aroma of mature red fruits. These two wines are best served with game dishes.

A number of white and sparkling wines were also tested, such as Grigio delle Venezie PGI, which is a popular light white with a citrus fruit aroma and flavours of apricot, as well as Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough with its distinctly fresh and aromatic flavour of flowers and lemon.

Cheese and cold cuts, dried fruits, nuts, crackers and dark chocolate from Lidl’s vast selection accompanied the wine.

Guests loved the wonderful atmosphere of the new place, and gave the wines a big thumbs up!
